Coburg’s 150th Celebrations at the “G” “A night to remember.”
Season 2005-06 heralds 150 years of cricketing excellence by the Coburg C.C.
Founded in 1856 the Coburg Cricket Club has forged a rich history that is the envy of the cricket fraternity. On the 25th of January 2006 nearly 300 members, past players and supporters gathered in the palatial Members’ dining room at the home of Australian sport, the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The purpose of this gathering was firstly to celebrate this historic occasion and to also induct 25 nominees into the Coburg Hall of Fame and from this list, induct three as “Legends” of the Coburg Cricket Club.
The evening was superbly compared by former “Bushranger” Captain, Mr. Darren Berry who was glowing in his tributes to the nominees. The gathering was also regaled by guest speakers including noted journalist & club supporter Mr. Gideon Haigh & former test cricketer, Mr. Keith Stackpole who afforded us an insight into his cricket career at the elite level.
The evening progressed with the induction of the following nominees into the Coburg CC’s inaugural “Hall of Fame”
Alf Swales | Arthur W. Marcy | Charlie Young | Col M. Callender | Dennis A. Fowler | Des W. Heskett | Frank Huntington | Glenn A. Edwards | Gordon Gilmour | Graeme B. From this list of illustrious inductees the following nominees were honoured with their induction as “Legends” of the Coburg CC.

A truly fantastic evening which fully embraced the emotional and historical significance of this occasion for the Coburg Cricket Club.
It’s hoped that in the not too distant future photos of the evening will be posted here. So watch this space. |
